SOULICO (Pronounced SOUL-EEK-OH)

Soulico is a 4 man DJ crew from Tel Aviv, Israel. Their new album Exotic on the Speaker was released this week and it seems pretty awesome. I haven't listened to it yet but I am looking forward to it. Lots of heavy hitters on this album, Ghostface, Del the Funky Homosapien and some peeps from their label Mad Decent. Which is owned and run by Diplo. But don't hold that against them.

U-George and DJ Dug Boogie used to be in The Hemisphere

You may remember this gem from the Ecko Unlimited/Lyricist Lounge Underground Airplay mixtape a while back...

Manchild (of Mars ILL) Winning The RedBull EmSee Battle.

Pretty ironic he ended up battling someone in the final round whose name is nearly identical to his group. (Mad Illz)

Man goes in at the 3:20 mark.

Rusted Sea x Raekwon

Rusted Sea Blog posted this 18 minute video of the Raekwon performance at Tru Skool Tuesday from April 28th. If I knew who shot the video I give the credit where its due, but for now we just have this link: http://www.rustedseamag.com/2009/09/raekwon-x-apache-cafe.html

Also check out this Raekwon picture I came across in Google Image Search, its NSFW (except if you work here).

Tortured Soul Will Make You Sweat This Saturday Night

Born of the simple yet adventurous belief that modern dance music can be performed completely live, Brooklyn's Tortured Soul packs dance floors with their unique live performances, while their recorded oeuvre pushes the genre boundaries of soul, dance, and pop.

Tortured Soul performed here at the Apach in March and it was an amazing show and we are very very excited to have them back here Saturday Night! You might've seen the posters up around town that proclaim "Live House/Neo Disco Visionaries Return!" I don't often see music described as "Live House/Neo Disco" so if you're like me you might be wondering what that means. Well Tortured Soul's music is pretty tough to pigeonhole, but lets keep it simple. They make dance music. Their music will make you dance. Lovely is their new live series, it promises to be a party. DJs Mike Zarin of 4Deep ATL and MichaelAlan of SWEAT will kick off the night with deep house to lather you kids up. Be there.

Podcasts are the official way to listen music in the 21st Century, and Tortured Soul has thrown their hat in the ring with their new podcast, episode 1 of the Soulcast is fantastic and a must listen for fans of dance music.

If thats not enough for you, check out Tortured Soul as the featured artist on the season premiere of my podcast Don't Smoke Internet Podcast

Apache Media Presents: Don't Smoke Cutting Edge Internet Music Podcast

This is the first edition of our podcast Don't Smoke Cutting Edge Music Podcast where I mix the hottest in new music from artists both playing the Apache and not! We have been bombarded with great hip hop releases this fall. Obviously, any discussion begins with Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II. Raekwon promised us OB4CL2 was coming when he played here this spring. He promised it'd be worth the wait. He didn't lie.

That's hardly the only record worth checking out. Rae's partner in crime Tony Starks put out The Wizard of Poetry which many heads are sleeping on cause its tagged as Ghost's "R'n'B" album. I don't get it. Ghost always murders soulbeats and doesn't compromise just because there's a singer on the hook. I put the song "Stay" on the podcast.

Also included is new music from Esoteric, Hell Razah & Shabazz the Disciple and M.O.P. (with Styles P!). Then we switch thangs up with the new music from The Tuneyards & Air and a couple songs from this episode's featured artists Tortured Soul, who is rocking the house on Saturday night (see below!)

[[00:30]] Hell Razah & Shabazz The Disciple are T.H.U.G. Angelz - Obituary
[[03:48]] Raekwon - Walk Wit Me
[[06:39]] O'Jays - Who Am I
[[11:13]] Ghostface Killah - Stay
[[14:04]] Esoteric - Studio Time/Goodbye
[[17:53]] MOP ft. Styles P - Bangtime
[[21:43]] Tuneyards - Sunlight
[[25:18]] Interlude
[[27:56]] Air - Do The Joy
[[30:41]] Tortured Soul - Enjoy It Now/We Like Tequila
[[34:42]] Boston Spaceships - Pluto The Skate

Doria Roberts: She Kissed A Girl, & She Liked It.

There's no dancing around the fact Doria Roberts is a proud and out lesbian. While her sexuality and romantic trials and tribulations are a central facet of her music, it often overshadows the fact Doria has been releasing excellent soulful acoustic folk records for the past 10 years. Her music speaks for itself and stands on its own two. We implore you to check out some of these fan favorites below!
